Fantasy Tabletop Devlog – Unit Traits Explained, Battle Deployment System, Carrioncrawler Reveal & 1000 Kickstarter Followers
We did it!! Thanks to all of you, we broke through the magical 1000 followers on Kick! Thanks to all of you for your support 🔥🔥 Let’s begin this Monday with some sneak peeks from the gameplay recordings we have been doing, so that you can have a full gameplay video soon on our official YT channel!
Last time we talked a bit about rules, so why not continue today, let’s go over all the Unit traits and see what they do.

Charge Resistant – This Unit takes 2 less damage from cavalry, monsters, and monstrous infantry Units.

Siege Attacker – This Unit deals double damage to battle structures. When a Unit with this trait is attacking a province with fortifications, the wait time is ignored.

Flanking – This Unit can move on the flanking lines.

Frost Attack – This Unit deals additional 1 damage; does not affect Units with this trait.

Terror – This Unit lowers the Leadership of all adjacent enemy Units by 2; does not affect Units with this trait.

Splash – This Unit deals 1 damage to all enemy Units adjacent to the attacked one.

Magic Attack – This Unit deals additional 1 damage; does not affect Units with this trait.

Poison – This Unit, when attacking, applies a poisoned effect to the attacked Unit. The poisoned effect deals 1 damage at the end of each battle round to the poisoned Unit. The poisoned effect does not stack unless anything in the game says otherwise.

Fire Attack – This Unit deals additional 1 damage; does not affect Units with this trait.
Now, these are all the traits along with of course armor piercing and the fly trait we showed off in the last Devblog.
Just like in the last Devblog we showed off something from the stretch goals on Kick, today’s no different, the Carrioncrawler!

Crawling and feeding upon the dead, this creature not only deals significant damage and has regenerative abilities through taking life essence from others, it also causes severe morale drops in almost any foe it is up against… Keep it away… Time to bring in those Glacierthrowers and give it hell!
So we already know how Units behave during battle, but what about deployment? Well, let’s take a look at that.

As you can see, the Battle Map is divided into 9 sections, and each section contains 4 areas, giving a total of 36 tiles.
Here’s how it works:
Frontline – the ideal place to deploy infantry
Ranged Line – for your archers, mages, etc.
Backline – for trebuchets, siege units, and other support troops
Close Combat Line – this is a neutral zone between both players; no Units can be deployed here at the start
Flanking Line – special side areas used only by Units with the Flanking trait
Now these are just suggestions, but you can deploy your archers on the frontline if you want, most likely not a brilliant strategy… But hey, if you want to…
Now it’s important to know that the attacker has an advantage here. Why? Because the defending side will deploy first, then the attacker, and only then the battle begins. So basically attacking has an advantage, because you know how your enemy is setting up and you can adjust your deployment!
Okay, so what about the close combat line? So the thing is, if you happen to have fortifications in your province, so this structure:

Then you are going to gain 5 siege points and you will be able to place battle structures in the deployment phase and that’s exactly what the close combat line is for, you can deploy those structures only there. So here we have all three structures for Humans, as you can see we have walls which cost 1 siege point, gates which cost 2 siege points and the arbalest costing 4 siege points.

Basically with one fortification structure in a province, if you get attacked there, you can build 3 walls and 1 gate, walling yourself from the enemy completely. This can be a huge advantage, especially when you have some ranged Units such as Glacierthrowers, archers or so on.
So wall yourself in, maximize your survival chances and make sure you make it to the next Devblog! See you then 🔥
